Brrr…
What a day I've had so far! I woke up extremely stiff…took me a good 20 minutes to stretch out my joints and get moving. Then I had to go into work early…did the work I had to do…then when I went to get up from my office chair, I couldn't. I had to stretch out each leg slowly as I had been sitting too long without movement…ugh… Some days I just feel so stiff! Then when I was getting back in my vehicle, I hit my wrist on the arm rest and was in tears because it was extremely painful…what a mess of a morning!!! I hope my day does not continue like this! I always seem to be less mobile when the winter weather starts (and rainy days).
I am not looking forward to the winter at all. Does anyone else feel this way? How are your joints in the cold weather?

Ouch, the wrist hurts the worst some days, some days they just don't bend!
ReplyDeleteMy wrists have become my enemy on most cold or damp days...and bumping them? Lord...the pain. I understand your tears as I've been there and still go there on a regular basis. There have been times I was so exhausted from driving a mere 20 miles I tearfully called home to tell my husband I'll be a while cause I have to rest a bit. And I have many days like that. I sit and I cry and I rest a short time and then I go home and rest some more. And I have the stiffness everyday to varying degrees. I can't sit long either for the same reason...I cannot move if I sit for too long. All this started in my writs and ankles and now, it's everywhere. Thank you for starting this blog...it really is good to have others in the same boat, to talk to. Someone who knows what it feels like to have this disease.
ReplyDeleteWow, Lindsay, you explain everything I go through so well. I'm 51 and was just diagnosed 2 months ago. I don't know anybody else with RA, so your posts help me a lot. I've been sort of skeptical about my symptoms, like the weakness in my hands, and having to hold on to something for the first few steps after sitting for a long time. I'm always inclined to blame it on natural aging. But I can see that it's not.
ReplyDeleteI go to my first support group meeting next week and hope to meet other folks with RA. But please don't stop writing...it helps me to know there really are other people experiencing the same thing I am. I don't feel so alone.
Thank you so much for sharing,
Judy from NY
This winter has come in with a BANG!! And I can feel it in my lower back. I'm scheduled for back surgery this Thursday so hopefully it'll help! Please pray for me as I'm having an extremely difficult time right now and Nobody gets it! So glad to have found this blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Minnesota and this winter has been just awful for me. One thing I've done is invested in a barometer which helps me to guage low-pressure storm systems. Low-pressure systems tend to make me ache more. Also arthritistoday.org has a thing where you can put in your zip code and it will look up the weather in your area and tell you what you can expect pain-wise from the weather... Knowledge has really helped me to be able to anticipate and medicate... make sure I have more NSAIDS on me that day, make sure I warn people that I may be slower or more achy so to bare with me if I need to rest more often, etc.... And if I do need to rest? I rest. Also, 3 pills of fish oil a day, and steer clear of dairy products if you feel yourself having a flare up.
ReplyDeleteCold is horrible and add damp and its a recipe for pain for me! Bumping hands, wrists and oh my elbows...really hurts! I have constant pain in my right elbow because I have lost bone. So the funny bone is really far from funny! Does anyone else sometimes have trouble driving?
ReplyDeleteSome days I feel like I could do better than the weatherman just by gauging how stiff I am or how much pain I am in...I actually had a Rheumatologist laugh when I told her that this last spring's erratic CNY weather caused my flare up...bah! Tell that to my body!
Michelle
Ladies I feel your pain, literally. I can also tell when the weather is going to change. My rheumatologist didn't believe me either when I told him. Some days are unbearable others I can get thru. Has anyone ever come down with diabetes after liver damage from meds?
